Australia
	Stoccata School of Defence The Stoccata School of Defence is based in Sydney, Australia, and is dedicated to the study of European swordsmanship using replicas of historic weapons, and techniques drawn from manuals of the period. They conduct regular classes in rapier and sword, including the use of companion weapons.
Austria
	Ars Gladii Located in Dorndirn, Austria, about 170km north of Milan, Italy, focuses primarily on German longsword and sword & buckler. They use a combination of steel and wooden wasters in their training stemming the training philosophy based on the historical "Federfechter" active around 1570.
	Dreynschlag Located in Vienna Wien, Austria, this school, although not specifically a historical martial arts school base their training on the style of Liechtenauer delivering historically authentic fighting styles to their spectators. They train and fight principally in armoured longsword fighting techiques of the 14th and 15th centuries.
Belgium
	Compagnie Hackamores This organization created in 2002 had evolved from the "Hesbaye Medieval Society" created in 1996 and resides in the village of "Ville-en-Hesbaye" and is located in Belgium, Europe. This group is presently focused on the medieval period, embracing the traditions and principles of this period with respect to mounted combat, jousting and mounted games.
	SwArta - Traditional Western Martial Arts SwArta is the first Flemish school of martial arts; a school that teaches - in a medieval way - the "traditional western martial arts". Their primary goal is to obtain the ability to use the medieval weapons of the Knightly Art. Each of these weapons have their own structured system. Included with the practical training, their second objective is to obtain insights in all the aspects of medieval and pre-Christian martial culture. Rite, symbolism, etiquette and jurisdiction are some of those aspects.
Canada
	Academie Duello Based in Vancouver and Surrey, BC, the Academy focuses on the Rapier as the foundation weapon for all the skills taught in the Academie Duello. Students can expect to spend the majority of their first year or so training almost exclusively with this weapon. It is one of the most physically and technically challenging weapons to master, and the skills and bilities developed while learning this weapon will build a solid foundation towards learning other weapons. The rapier curriculum is built upon the works of Capo Ferro, primarily. Following the initial training with rapier, sidesword is the immediate precursor to the rapier, and shares some similarities in design, if not technique. Sidesword curriculum is built upon the works of Marozzo, Manciolino, and Dall'Aggochie.
	Academy of European Swordsmanship Based in Edmonton, Alberta, the Academy of European Swordsmanship or AES pursues the academic and physical study of European swordsmanship. They strive to further their knowledge and the dissemination of knowledge regarding the rich heritage of historical western martial arts. The AES strives to offer a legitimate martial experience to all those who express an interest in the European martial arts. They emphasize the use of historical sources, accurate replica weapons, and effective, realistic practise without fantasy, choreography or sporting concerns.
	Canadian Association of Ancient and Medieval Archery A society for the furtherance of the practice of traditional archery and the study of its history, ethnology and archaeology. This ranges from prehistoric archery and ethnographic parallels, through archery of the ancient and medieval world, to the traditional composite bows of Asia that are still made today.
	Lynx Sword Study Group  is a Western Martial Arts Study Group based in Victoria, BC, Canada. They study the arts originally taught by Fiore di Liberi in the late 14th and early 15th centuries, and concentrate on sword in two hands and dagger, using the Getty MS as their primary source. Classes are Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, Fall-Spring, and by arrangement during the summer.
	Ottawa Medieval Sword Guild The OMSG in Ottawa had evolved as a result of Anton Cvet's close involvement in the early days of AEMMA and his desire to establish a local training and practice group outside of Toronto. Anton Cvet, along with co-founder, John Woods, have defined OMSG's focus as the study, practice and training in the armoured fighting arts within the period of 14-15th century Europe. OMSG has very close ties with AEMMA Toronto, given Anton's position as director at large on the AEMMA executive in the early days of AEMMA. This enables OMSG to remain consistent with AEMMA's training methodology, including the testing of OMSG members for the rank of scholler. As of January 2003, OMSG possesses 7 recognized AEMMA schollers.
	Sword Academy Sword Academy is dedicated to the practice and revival of Western Martial Arts in Calgary. Through the teaching of accurate technique with an athletic focus, in combination with the continual study of surviving manuals and the help of public demonstrations, we hope to raise awareness of the Western Martial tradition. Sword Academy's emphasis is on the physical application of Western Martial Arts rather than on translating or publishing manuals and interpretations.
Czech Republic
	Společnost pro výskum a praktické provádení vznešeného umění šermířského Based in the Czech Republic, the Free Brotherhood of the Honourable Art of Fencing is a society dealing with the reconstruction of the original European martial art of the old warriors and fighters, better known as Kunst des Fechtens (Art of Fencing). Their activities include translations of the original treaties and manuscripts (fechtbuchs, ringbuchs, chronicles, and other handwritten documents …) referring to fencing and related issues.
Finland
	School of European Swordsmanship, Helsinki The School of European Swordsmanship, Helsinki or SESH, located in Helsinki, Finland has as its purpose to train students in a correct and complete method of European Swordsmanship, firmly grounded in historical techniques, and maintaining a constant awareness of the truly martial nature of this art.
France
	De Taille et d'Estoc, Burgundy An Association Bourguignonne de Recherche et de Dèveloppement des Arts Martiaux Historiques Européens : De Taille et d'Estoc. (Burgundian Association for the Research and Development of the Historical European Martial Arts).
Germany
	Alte Kampfkunst evolved from the original school "Die Freifechter" and therefore, has a similar goal, that is to reconstruct historical fencing through the study and application of techniques sourced through historical treatises. The interest is centered on the German tradition of fencing working with longsword, German rapier and sabre. The work extends to the study of the sword & buckler based on the study of the I.33 Tower Fechtbuch.
	Die Freifechter A group of historical fencing practitioners operating out of Cologne, Germany, have based their work and training on the historical treatises, ranging from the 14 - 17 centuries. An excellent site for modern German textual transcriptions for initially a couple of historical German texts include Sutor and Meyer.
	Krifon - Historische Fechtkunst & Rüstzeug Krifon, headquartered out of Mannheim, Germany was created in 1999 and is focused various fighting styles including longsword, staff and arming sword. The school studies the various fechtbücher of the period, concentrating on Hans Talhoffer's fechtbücher, whose blended sources of Liechtenauer and Ott provides the school with a solid grounding in the German school of fencing.
	Ochs - historische Kampfknste Ochs, headquartered out of München, Munich, Germany with key members in Bayreuth, Simbach and Dsseldorf was created in 1999 is a historical European martial arts school that is principally focused on the study, research and practice of the German school of fighting arts disciplines focused primarily on techniques and training between the 14th and 16th centuries which include longsword, dusack, grappling/wrestling and dagger techniques.
	Zornhau! - die Frakfurter Freifechter Zornhau is a historical European martial arts school, named after one of the techniques described in the German fechtbuchs, namely zornhau or "anger-strike". The school is located in the Frankfurt/Main area, and is dedicated to the study and training of historical fencing focused on the period during the medieval and later eras.
Great Britain
	Aberdeen Swordsmanship Group Aberdeen Swordsmanship Group is a practice group that has been set up to study Historical European Swordsmanship (HES). Emphasis is placed upon the use of historical sources, accurate replica weapons, and effective, realistic practice without fantasy, choreography or sporting concerns.
	The Company of Maisters The Company of Maisters was an affiliation of martial arts instructors (maisters of defence) who operated their own academies which were known to the English as "Scholes of Fence". In 1997, as part of his ongoing plan to re-introduce traditional English fighting systems to modern martial artists, Ancient Maister Terry Brown legally reformed the Company of Maisters. This organization, which is an English martial arts academy not a re-enactment society, will be run as closely as possible (present  day legislation permitting) to the manner in which the original Company operated.
	English Fighting Arts The school of English Fighting Arts offer personal training in Traditional English Martial Arts and Self Defense. Headed up by Frank Docherty, earning the title of Senior Instructor under Maestro Terry Brown, designed the school's programs which uses Traditional martial arts and self defence based processes to learn to defend oneself in the modern world using old world martial arts. It is about finding more of oneself through the physical experience of learning defensive skills.
	The Exiles CMMA The Exiles CMMA (Company of Medieval Martial Artists) or TE is a UK based group located in Dagenham, Essex, which is on the East side of London, North of the River. TE covers the historical period between 500 AD to 1500 AD. The group works primarily with the "broad" sword and the sword and shield. The Exiles CMMA was formed in 1993 by its founder Robert Lovett, and presently has a membership of 20 participants.
	The Linacre School of Defence The LSD (a student society of Linacre College, Oxford) was formed in 1999 for the study of European martial arts, concentrating on the art of the sword as it was in Britain during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The purpose of training is to prepare students for the defence of their lives with sharps, and therefore do not practice sport fencing, stage combat, re-enactment or any form of choreography.
	Macdonald Academy of Arms The Macdonald Academy of Arms is established in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is solely dedicated to teaching most forms of Western swordsmanship and European martial arts. The Academy follows in the tradition of many popular Edinburgh fencing academies, such as that of Sir William Hope, a Scots fencing master who taught in the city from the late 17th to the early 18th centuries, and the Royal Academy of Exercises, which flourished in Edinburgh under the famous fencing masters John Xavier Angelo and George Roland from c. 1763 to 1870.
Italy
	Accademia di Scherma Tradizionale A school of dueling techniques located in Milano, where the techniques and tradition of the duel and personal defense is continued to be practiced and trained. The techniques trained are the result of rigorous research and development based on both Italian and German treatises. Headed up by Maestro Andrea Lupo-Sinclair, an IMAF master, he instructs his students in historical European martial arts focused principally on epee, rapier and longsword.
Netherlands
	Academie voor Europese middeleeuwse krijgskunsten (AMEK)  Academie voor Europese middeleeuwse krijgskunsten or European Medieval Combat Academy is an an Academy who's primary objective is to establish a community of skilled medieval martial artists through training and education based on research and development on historical treatises, specifically with Sigmund Ringeck's commentaries on Liechtenauer, Hans Talhoffer, Codex Wallerstein, Solothurner Fechtbuch and Flos Duellatorum.
New Zealand
	Historical European Martial Arts This site is dedicated to the almost-lost arts of unarmed combat, dagger fighting and close-quarters sword combat as they were practiced throughout Europe centuries ago. The site provides: a) basic information about historical European combat grappling and dagger systems, b) links to online copies and translations of the old fighting manuals, c) practical applications of the historical techniques, adapted for realistic self-defense and NHB-style competition, d) links to related organisations and resources.
Serbia & Montenegro
	Damnjanovic Fencing System MAČEVALAČKOM SISTEMU DAMNJANOVIĆ is a contemporary Serbian form of swordsmanship. Its defining was completed during 2003. and 2004. The foundation of Damnjanovic Fencing System is a result of personal experience of Dejan Damnjanovic, its founder, in various Asian and European sword arts, as well as of his research on various military saber techniques that were studied on Military Academies before 1918.
	St. George's School of Fencing šKOLE MAČEVANJA "SVETI ÐORÐE The first and only school of combat fencing (sword fighting) with the two handed sword in the Balkans and the only school of fencing with the rapier and the small sword in Southeastern Europe. St. George's School of Fencing was founded in 1998 by Maestro Aleksandar Stankovic, a fencing master from Belgrade, together with a group of fencers who outgrew the concept of modern sport fencing as a "rush forward - rush backward - crush game," finding it too narrow and lacking in perspective. The school consists of four sections: the two-handed sword fighting section, the Spanish rapier fighting section, the small sword fighting section, and the foil fencing section for children and beginners. Lessons are held for ladies and gentlemen of all ages in group or individual classes - in the recognizable St. George's "elevated hand" style, founded in the elements of the Spanish and German schools, as well as Angelo Domenico's "L'Ecole des Armes," (London 1763).
South Africa
	The Medieval Armed Combat Society of South Africa  MACS grew out of the founders' shared interest for swords and historically accurate swordplay. The Society devotes itself to teaching and researching historical European fighting styles as valid, effective martial arts, relying on the translation and interpretation of period manuscripts within a combative training syllabus. Originally devoted solely to the study of German longsword manuscripts from the 14th to the 16th Century, the Society has now diversified into teaching the allied disciplines of messer, sword and buckler, and dagger, as well as into 16th and 17th century rapier play.
Spain
	Asociacion Española de Esgrima Antigua Asociacion Española de Esgrima Antigua or the AEEA, located in Madrid, is an association dedicated to the study and practice and research of historical fencing. It is focused on the reconstruction of historical techniques with roots in Spanish history. In order to reconstruct these techniques, historical treatises are studied and practiced as part of the process of reconstruction. Treatises studied include Vadi and Fiore longsword treatises, Italian rapier school based on Capoferro, Alfieri, and Marcelli, Spanish rapier school "Destreza" based on Pacheco de Narvaéz's treatise, Ettenhard y Abarca and Lorenz de Rada, and Spanish rapier school "destreza común o vulgar" based on Narvaéz treatises.
Sweden
	Göteborgs Historiska Fäktskola Göteborgs Historiska Fäktskola or Göteborgs Historical Fencing School, GHFS, was founded in 2003, and focus primarily on interpretations of the Liechtenauer longsword tradition, especially Ringeck. The site is mostly in Swedish, but you will also find an online english translation of Hs.3227a, often ascribed to Hanko Doebringer.
Switzerland
	Académie Genevoise d'Armes Anciennes Académie Genevoise d'Armes Anciennes (Academy of Geneva in Ancient Arms) or the AGAA located in Geneva, Switzerland practice, train and present to the public ancient techniques of fighting with swords, axes, maces and other historical European weapons. The AGAA practice Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods fighting techniques.
	Gladius et Codex  Located in Zurich, this group's focus is the study, practice and reconstruction of historical European martial arts from the 13th century through to the 17th century. The name of this group is Latin which means "sword and book". They train with all of the knightly weapons and training begins with the Liechteneaur tradition and later expands to other treatises including the Codex Wallerstein. Interestingly, they also practice with the dusack.
United States of America
	Academia della Spada The Academia della Spada, Academy for the Noble Art & Science of Fence, was formed in August of 1999 in Seattle, WA. The Academy teaches 16th century rapier techniques gleaned from study and practice of the period fencing treatises. To recreate this Western martial art, as practised during its time, they use reproductions of period blades and equipment. As students advance in their study of this art and science we recommend they obtain period clothes and accoutrements to further their overall education of the history, movement, rhythm, and mind-set which spawned this martial art.
	Alliance Martial Arts The purpose of the Alliance Martial Arts site is to raise the level of awareness of western martial arts, and to provide a resource of information, articles and events relevant to the martial arts. The site includes coverage of medieval close combat, bowie knife fighting and Filipino martial arts.
	Ars Gladii Located in Detroit, Ars Gladii is both a study group and a "traditional" school. The primary weapon of Ars Gladii is the Longsword, This weapon is well represented in most known historical treatises from the 14th and 15th centuries. Ars Gladii works from what is now referred to by many practitioners as the "Liechtenauer" tradition, lineage, or legacy, taking its name from the master Johannes Liechtenauer.
	Black Falcon School of Arms The Black Falcon School of Arms, founded in August 2003 is based in Colorado Springs, is a non-profit organization dedicated to researching and re-constructing historical European martial arts. Their main focus is to re-construct the art of late medieval and early Renaissance English longsword combat as exemplified by three primary texts dated between the early 15th and mid 16th centuries, with possible reference to later sources or those of other countries of origin if applicable.
	Chicago Swordplay Guild The Chicago Swordplay Guild provides instruction in the serious study of western swordplay from 1300 to 1650, through controlled drills and fencing with wooden and steel weapons. By combining practical knowledge gained through fencing, with scholarship into the teachings of the historical Masters, the Guild seeks to develop a modern school of practical swordsmanship that is consistent with the methodology of the ancient fencing schools.
	Classical Fencing Society The Classical Fencing Society or CFS initially began at Saint Louis University in November 1997 out of a series of instructional classes, given by Instructor David Achilleus, in the art of Classical Fencing. The CFS continues to instruct with the traditional Classical and Historical fencing following a classical pedagogy. With locations in St. Louis, MO and Milwaukee, WI., the CFS has been leading traditional fencing instruction in the Midwest since 1997.
	Davenriche European Martial Arts School The Davenriche European Martial Arts School or DEMAS, located in San Jose, CA., teaches the unarmoured techniques as illustrated by the old masters, including longsword, rapier/dagger, & side sword. The period of focus ranges from the 15th through to the 17th centuries. DEMAS teaches the techniques illustrated and documented by the old masters in their historical fighting treatises including: Flos Duellatorum, Swetnam, Marozzo and Talhoffer.
	Higgins Armory Sword Guild The Sword Guild practices techniques from medieval and Renaissance combat manuals with a unique combination of martial arts expertise with academic training. Currently, focus is on the techniques of the medieval longsword (also called the hand-and-a-half sword or bastard sword) as described by Joachim Meyer in 1570. Future plans include practice of the rapier and staff weapons.
	The Martinez Academy of Arms The Martinez Academy of Arms is a unique school that preserves the tradition of viewing fencing as the study of the sword in its realistic application in personal combat. Entering the school one steps into another era and finds a serious group of practitioners dedicated to the art of the sword.
	Northwest Fencing Academy The Northwest Fencing Academy, located in Eugene, Oregon is a school which is engaged in the development and training of traditional fencing techniques including a classical curriculum Italian foil, épée and sabre. Other areas of research and instruction include shortsword, sidesword and rapier.
	Schola Saint George To study, practice and refine the arts of swordsmanship and horsemanship as they might have been practiced in the Middle Ages, supporting and incorporating the rich corpus of materials left to us by our ancestors in the medieval fechtbuchs.
	St. Martin's Academy of Medieval Arms St. Martin's Academy is located in Madison, Wisconsin. The primary focus of the Academy is the study and application of medieval combat--this includes wrestling, dagger and swordplay, staff, spear, pollaxe and various other staff weapons. The core program revolves around the study of basic combat principles in combination with the specific techniques and methods described by various manuals of the medieval period.
	Tattershall School of Defense The Tattershall School of Defense, based in Phoenix, Az. is a nonprofit corporation founded to meet the needs of the historical-oriented fencing community. The TSD exists to teach, preserve and support the art of the historical fencing (15th, 16th & 17th Centuries) as well as the classical period. Along with the teaching of the mechanical aspects of historical fencing, TSD will promote the study of the philosophical and social aspects of the historical and classical fencing eras.

	Association for Historical Fencing The Association for Historical Fencing is a nonprofit corporation founded to meet the needs of the classical- and historical-oriented fencing community. The AHF exists to encourage and preserve the arts of classical, historical, and ancient fencing. To these ends, the AHF plans to organize seminars, lectures, workshops and similar programs, and to disseminate knowledge and basic factual material to its membership. To raise pubic awareness we will host exhibitions and demonstrations. The AHF, to the extent practicable, will ensure the availability of qualified masters and instructors in order to teach workshops, etc. We hope to promote the growth of schools and academies both nationally and internationally, but most importantly, we wish to provide a venue where practitioners and interested parties can unite to foment the growth of the classical, historical and ancient fencing community.
	Australian Historical Swordplay Federation The Federation was founded to represent the interests of all groups in Australia studying and teaching historical styles of European swordsmanship and related martial arts. The membership of the Federation comprises all five current Schools of historical swordsmanship in Australia, in alphabetical order: The Australian College of Arms (Melbourne, Albury), Finesse Academie of Fence (Canberra), Gemeiner Martial Arts Academy (Gold Coast), Prima Spada (Brisbane) and Stoccata School of Defence (Sydney).
	British Federation of Historical Swordplay The British Federation for Historical Swordplay (BFHS) is a national, non political, umbrella group for all individual UK societies involved in the research, study and practise of historical fencing and the European Martial Arts. The BFHS is presently comprised of twelve individual societies researching, teaching and practicing historical fencing from the 13th to the 19th centuries with a martial approach, that is the weapons are regarded as sharp and students are prepared for facing an encounter with live blades.
	De Re Militari - The Society for Medieval Military History De Re Militari, the Society for Medieval Military History, is a professional non-profit association established to foster and develop interest in the study of pre-modern military affairs. To meet this goal, De Re Militari seeks to facilitate a greater exchange of information and ideas on pre-modern military affairs though lectures, forums, conferences, publications, discussion lists and internet access. The society was started in May of 1991, and over the years has grown to become the leading academic association on medieval military history. They currently have over two hundred members, who include professors, graduate students, publishers, and scholars interested in medieval and early modern warfare. Members receive the Society's publication entitled " The Journal of Medieval Military History", a top-quality scholarly publication containing articles on topics across the full thematic and chronological ranges of the study of war in the middle ages.
	Historical European Martial Arts Coalition (HEMAC)  HEMAC was founded in 2001 by western martial arts practitioners and researchers from various European countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Norway and Poland. HEMAC has no hierarchy and is a 'round-table' organisation. Decisions are made by democratic process. It is also in the spirit of HEMAC to help and nurture new practitioners and esearchers and help them flourish, by aiding them in their researches and learning. It does not seek to inflict rules or regulations on any member or member group - It simply exists as a coalition of friendly individuals who want to help each other.
	Italian Ancient & Historical Fencing Federation (FISAS) FISAS (Italian Ancient & Historical Fencing Federation) or "La Federazione Italiana di Scherma Antica e Storica" is a professional program founded in 1995 that has since become the most important and visible association in Italy with respect to the fencing style of the period from the 13th century to the 18th century. The basic principles of our didactics is the study of historically accurate offensive and defensive historical fencing, structured with a high level of swordsmanship etiquette, martial and historical accuracy, and intensive psycho-physical discipline and control. The program uses steel weapons and does not engage in reenactments.
	The International Hoplology Society, Inc. The aim of the International Hoplology Society is the development of hoplology--the study of the evolution and development of human combative behavior. Hoplologists and, consequently, the International Hoplology society, have aimed at developing a systematic study of man's combative culture in all ages.
	The International Masters at Arms Federation The International Masters at Arms Federation is an organization of professional teachers of Historical and Classical fencing, that is to say, fencing of the 14th through the 19th centuries, based on surviving traditions and historical documentation. As teachers, they are not interested in agonistic competition, but rather in preserving the historical and martial aspects of European fencing and swordsmanship.
	Swordplay Symposium International Swordplay Symposium International is a not-for-profit organization, created to encourage appreciation of Western military and civilian swords and hand weapons and to promote historical knowledge of their martial usage. Swordplay Symposium International will host a biannual conference of historical Western martial arts. The Conference will provide a forum for members and guests to present papers; give demonstrations; and share insights, discoveries, theories, and information among colleagues and fellows in a cordial and positive environment.

The Arador Armour Library This is a Library of Information to Promote History Through the Study and Recreation of Period Armour and Armoured Fighting. It began in spring of 1995 to offer information and camaradery to those in the Internet community who have an interest in armour and armour-related subjects.

Association of Historical Fencing - Estafilade Newsletter A quarterly newsletter entitled "Estafilade" that contains invaluable information on the current events with respect to the Association of Historical Fencing. The newsletters cover significant events, interviews of various individuals, and excellent book reviews. The newsletter supports the mandate of the AHF which is to encourage and preserve the arts of classical and historical fencing.

Creating French Culture - An Exhibition of the Library of Congress  Creating French Culture: Treasures from the Bibliothèque Nationale de France traces the history of the relationship between power and culture from Charlemagne (b. 742?-d. 814) to Charles de Gaulle (b. 1890-d. 1970), through the prism of more than 200 magnificent "treasures" on loan from the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris. The Bibliothèque's generous collaboration has made possible a unique exhibition which includes many items never before seen outside of France. The choice of items was dictated as much by their historical importance as by their artistic value in the hope that they will provide insight into, and spark curiosity about, the complex history of the United States' oldest ally.

The Bibliothèque Nationale de France  A fantastic collection of digitized images of works by individuals including, but not limited to Jean Froissart (circa 1337-circa 1404) who is is best remembered as a historian and as the author of the Chronicle, a document that is essential to an understanding of Europe in the fourteenth century and to the twists and turns taken by the Hundred Years' War. Froissart's constant travels took him to the four corners of Europe and placed him in direct contact with a variety of courtly circles, all very well versed in the political affairs of the day. And by another writer by the name of Primat, a monk of Saint-Denis, who had presented his works (Roman des Rois (Romance of the Kings)) to Philip III the Bold in 1274 which formed the basis of the Grandes Chroniques de France into 1461. Other collections include the works by John of Berry's Petites Heures, containing five books of hours which he commissioned for his personal use from about 1375 until his death in 1416, and which are numbered among the masterpieces of French, indeed European manuscript painting from the late Middle Ages.

The Electronic Journals of Martial Arts and Sciences A collection of martial arts oriented journals for the purpose to bring academic and popular e-journals concerning various aspects of the martial arts, both east and west, to the web. Internet Medieval Sourcebook  The Internet Medieval Sourcebook (sponsored by Fordham University) had been developed to assist historians teaching medieval history and who desired a mechanism to combine a textbook, a sourcebook, and additional readings. Textbooks, as an ever-evolving form, are probably worth the cost, but sourcebooks are often unnecessarily expensive. Unlike some modern history texts, the sources used for medieval history have been around a long time. Very many were translated in the 19th century, and, as a rapid review of any commercial source book will show, it is these 19th century translations which make up the bulk of the texts. Indeed the genealogy of such texts is a minor area of possible historiographical research. Although publishers need make no copyright payments to use these texts, there is no real cost reduction, compared with sourcebooks  for modern history surveys. Many of these 19th century texts are now available on the Internet, or are easily typed in to etext form.

The Labyrinth  The Labyrinth (sponsored by Georgetown University) provides free, organized access to electronic resources in medieval studies through a World Wide Web server at Georgetown University. The Labyrinth's easy-to-use menus and links provide connections to databases, services, texts, and images on other servers around the world. Each user will be able to find an Ariadne's thread through the maze of information on the Web. This project not only provides an organizational structure for electronic resources in medieval studies, but also serves as a model for similar, collaborative projects in other fields of study. The Labyrinth project is open-ended and is designed to grow and change with new developments in technology and in medieval studies.

Medieval Sword Resource Site This noncommercial site has been established in order to provide information of interest to students and collectors of European Dark and Middle Ages swords and other edged weapons, with a particular focus on the swords of the Viking Age.

NetSERF  Hosted by the Catholic University of America, NetSERF is a repository of an extensive listing of internet links to other relevant medieval studies groups and resources.  NetSERF was created by Beau A.C. Harbin, who is currently a Ph.D. student at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., specializing in late medieval English history, especially the effects of the Hundred Years War upon English society and politics.

New Albion New Albion or NA is based in the UK and is a web site dedicated to the English martial arts and English culture, located in London on the North west side of London, north of the River. The New Albion's website is designed to promote all historical periods of English culture and English martial arts. New Albion was formed in 1997 by it's founder Frank Docherty, who has been practicing English martial arts for 10 years, and who's maister is Terry Brown. Frank Docherty is a practicing member of The Company of Maisters and is also an affiliate of 'The Company of Maisters" through their "Friends of The Company" program.

New York Carver Newsletter An online newsletter that is full of information pertaining to the medieval period and which includes topics that cover music, architecture, historical sites and more. The newsletter is emailed directly to the subscriber, and can be viewed online at the URL above. Other interesting areas includes a gothic field guide, online cathedral, medieval castles and medieval art tours.

The Online Reference Book for Medieval Studies   The Online Resource Book for Medieval Studies (ORB), hosted by Rhodes College, is a cooperative effort on the part of scholars across the internet to establish an online textbook source for medieval studies on the World-Wide Web. In principle, authors of the various articles that make up ORB maintain their own articles at their own locations.   Each article is connected to ORB's Title Index, which can be accessed at any time by clicking on the ORB icon anywhere it appears. In addition, each article will be linked directly to related articles and other information available on the Web. Some authors welcome your questions, comments and observations about their articles. This invitation is indicated by a sensitive mail icon after the author's name.

Early Manuscripts at Oxford University  The Early Manuscripts Project has created an excellent collection of high-resolution digital facsimiles of complete manuscripts scanned directly from the originals and available online. Although, not presently oriented towards combat and martial arts, it deserves mentioned due to the opportunity of viewing these ancient documents online. Currently, many of the Celtic manuscripts held by the Oxford Libraries are available here, but the project will eventually include broader range of manuscripts held by the Oxford libraries as well. The project forms part of the Specialised Research Collections in the Humanities (NFF) initiative supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), Scottish Higher Education Funding Council (SHEFC), Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and Department of Education Northern Ireland (DENI) under the direction of the Non-Formula Funding Committee. Beginning with collections of Celtic manuscripts from several Oxford libraries, and subsequently extended to include a broader range, the project is creating high resolution digital images, which are stored on the Oxford University Hierarchical File Server, and made available over the international networks.

Western Martial Arts Training Database A repository and search engine of western martial artists world wide. A new project (as of April 2001) which will provide the western martial arts community a search engine to find individuals or groups based on search criteria entered. Ultimately, it can become the "yellow pages" for the western martial art community.

La Compagnie Médiévale La Compagnie Médiévale originates from La Compagnie Excalibur, created in 1982 in Lyon, France as a training school focused on medieval fencing. One of the original members, recognized l'Académie d'armes de France (Academy of Arms, France) created La Compagnie Médiévale, Montreal, Canada and is presently focused on their interpretation of I.33 in the area of sword & buckler combat.

La Compagnia della Spada The "Academy of the Sword" was founded in 1995 by Giovanni Rapisardi for the purpose to offer education and training in the traditional and historical fencing in Padova, Italy. Rapisardi practiced olympic fencing for almost 20 years and has received training in several oriental martial arts including judo, kickboxing and kobudo. For the past five years, Rapisardi has conducted intensive study on the most important fencing treatises from 1400 to early 1900's. Rapisardi began instructing the ancient combat technics, training his students in the realistic dueling engagements. La Compagnia della Spada provides training in the following forms of swordmanship: one-and-half handed sword; sword and buckler; sword and round-shield; rapier; rapier and dagger; rapier and cloak; smallsword; and sabre.

Compagnia De' Malipiero In 1995 Massimo Malipiero founded the "Compagnia de' Malipiero" whose aims are not only the historical research and the practice of swordfighting, but also the teaching of the italian fencing covering the period from the 13th to 20th Century. This sport discipline follows the original rules of the art of swordsmanship practiced by the nobility in private or public duels and in battles.

The Medieval Siege Society Limited The Medieval Siege Society was formed in 1993 by a group of re-enactors and archers with an interest in medieval re-enactment and Living History. In April 2001 the Medieval Siege Society Limited ("society") became a company limited by guaranty. The objective of the Society is to organise diverse medieval events, especially those of that period of history known as the Hundred Years War and the War of the Roses (circa 1350 - 1490).

School of Medieval Swordmanship, Milan The "School of the Sword" resides in Milan, Italy, and focuses on the techniques and principles of 2-handed, hand-and-a-half broad sword combat, utilizing steel swords.  This school is loosely affiliated with the European branch of the SCA.

Tournament Productions A California based group dedicated to preserving the art of Tournament Sword Fighting that re-creates Tournaments based on the Tournaments of the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries. The organazation has over 20 years experence in the production of live steel Tournaments. They have been active as a main part in many orgnazations productions, as well as their own Tournaments for private occasions and events.

Art of Combat Art of Combat, located in Lansing, Michigan, is a company dedicated to choreographing staged violence for theatre and film. It is the goal of AoC to continually grow and train in the many different forms of armed and unarmed fighting techniques, and to successfully demonstrate and apply this training to others in a theatrical setting with control, and safety, while remaining true to the style's historical accuracy.

	Royal Heraldry Society of Canada and its Branches mission is to promote the Art and Science of Heraldry, particularly Canadian heraldry, and to encourage an interest in the subject among Canadians. Since the Society's foundation more than three decades ago, the RHSC has never lost sight of its objectives and continues to this day informing and educating Canadians and assisting them and their institutions in the acquisition of properly granted coats of arms. During its first twenty-five years, the Society was the driving force toward the establishment of Canada's own body for the granting of arms.
	Canadian Heraldic Authority major activities include: granting of new armorial bearings (arms, flags and badges) and native symbols; registration of recognized existing arms, flags and badges; approval of military badges, flags and other insignia of the Canadian Forces; registration of genealogical information related to the inheritance of arms; provision of information on correct heraldic practices; provision of information on heraldic artists who work in various media; and development of, and involvement in, national and regional heraldic ceremonies. These ceremonies, incidentally, may involve the Governor General, who may personally present the new coat of arms and sign the grant document. With few exceptions, only documents the Governor General has personally presented to corporate bodies bear her signature; others are signed by officers of the Canadian Heraldic Authority. 	International Association of Amateur Heralds or the IAAH is a diverse assembly of professional and non-professional genealogists, heraldists, historians, and graphic artists dedicated to providing the general public with heraldic information and design guidance at no charge. The IAAH stands ready to help you with heraldic research or to design and emblazon a coat of arms you'd like to assume and/or which you've had or which you'd like to have registered with an official heraldic authority. Any armorial bearing the Association helps you design will follow the established rules of heraldry and will be designed free of charge.

Augsburg University Library Augsburg University Library or Universitätsbibliothek Augsburg was founded only in 1970. The library possesses a relevant pair of important collections. two important collections of older works: The Oettingen-Wallerstein Collection, assembled by a Swabian aristocratic family over several centuries, and the library of the Cassianeum, a Swabian teacher-training college founded in 1847.

Austrian National Library Austrian National Library or Österreichische Nationalbibliothek holds approximately six million items and therefore ranks as the biggest library in Austria. Not only the number of books but also the nine special collections support its claims to international reputation. Papyri, manuscripts, ancient and rare books, maps, globes, music, portraits, graphics, photographs, autographs and posters as well as works in and on Esperanto and other artificial languages are stored in the various collections and are available for scientific research.

Universität Heidelberg The University of Heidelberg had started a project on digitizing their historical documents late 2000. The initial results of their efforts is the exquisitely illustrated Die Manessesche Liederhandschrift located on the online library of this site or directly on the university's site.

Higgins Armory Museum Higgins Armory Museum is the only museum in the Western Hemisphere solely dedicated to the collection of arms and armor, which covers Medieval and Renaissance Europe, feudal Japan, and other Mediterranean cradles of civilization.

Frazier Historical Arms Museum Foundation The Frazier Historical Arms Museum (located in Louisville, KY) in collaboration with the Royal Armouries in Britain, will feature ten centuries of exquisitely crafted arms and armor from Europe and America: 11th to early 20th centuries. This remarkable collection boasts the weapons of famous politicians and celebrities, noted frontiersmen and soldiers. The Mediaeval Studies Undergraduate Society (MSUS) of St. Michael's College is a student group dedicated to being the center of activity within the mediaeval studies program. The club exists to promote student involvement within the program by offering events of an academic, social, and cultural nature at SMC and the University of Toronto.

Michigan State University Libraries MSU's Charles and Ruth Schmitter Fencing Collection includes nearly 1000 volumes, published since 1500, in more than a dozen languages. Royal Armouries, Leeds, UK The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds was opened in 1996 as the new home for the national collection of arms and armour. Each of the five themed galleries covering War, Tournament, Self-Defence, Hunting and the arms and armour of the Orient. The Royal Armouries collection has its origins in the arsenal of the British army preserved at the Tower of London. Most of the medieval material at the Tower was disposed of in the modernisation of the army by Henry VIII in the 1540s, but from the middle of the 16th century up to the middle of the 19th century a very large quantity of munition arms and armour was preserved in the Tower.

The Royal Library, Copenhagen The Royal Library was founded by King Frederik III in about 1653 and in 1673 it was established in a proper library building - opposite the Castle of Christiansborg (now The Parliament). Between 1661 and 1664, Frederik III acquired three private libraries, the collections of which (mainly in Romance languages) made up the nucleus of the Royal Library. The most notable collection is their medieval collection, one of which is available on AEMMA's online library, that being Hans Talhoffer's 1459 treatise.

The Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) was created by the signing of the ROM Act in the Ontario Legislature on April 16, 1912. Collections comprise over 6 million objects (4,900,000 science specimens; 1,100,000 art and archaeology artifacts). Approximately 67,000 items are added each year. The ROM has an extensive medieval and renaissance collection which the AEMMA membership has periodically scheduled physical examinations onsite.

Sächsische Landesbibliothek, Dresden The history of Sächsische Landesbibliothek goes back to 1556 with collections dating to the early 13th century. The library (SLUB - The Saxonian federal state library - State and university library Dresden) holds more than a million historical documents, pages, cards and treatises. This library is also the home of the Sigmund Ringeck treatise, available for viewing and study on our online library.
