Queenston Public School PresentationApril 24, 2003 |
David M. Cvet delivered a 1.5 hour presentation on "How a man shall be armed in the 14th century" to approximately 100 students on April 24, 2003 at Queenston Public School, Mississauga, ON. The presentation was scheduled in the morning right after morning announcements and was held in the school's library.
The presentation began with David fully dressed in historically authentic arms and armour of the 14th century (approximately dated to 1350). A backdrop that included a tapestry depicting a battle scene reproduced from an image of the "Story of David" from the Maciejowski Bible created in 1250, and banners. David proceeded to describe the medieval period from a military perspective. The presentation included detailed description of the arms and armour of a 14th century knight and detailing some battle strategies of the period. During this talk, David removed the armour components, piece by piece explaining the design details in terms of defensive and offensive capabilities of the arms and armour. During this portion of the presentation, questions from the audience were fielded by David, which included such questions as "How heavy is the armour"? "How heavy is the sword"? and so on. The presentation was similar in content with the presentations delivered to the ROM. See AEMMA at the ROM for more details on the presentation.
At the conclusion of the presentation, a video of AEMMA's production of "The Duel" showing a representation of a 15th century judicial armoured duel which were periodically held in Germany of the period. The video was filmed at Orangeville's Jousting Tournament in July 2001.
