World Championship Jousting Tournament, Orangeville
Armoured Judicial Duel Demonstration

July 14, 2001

The World Championship Jousting Association (WCJA) hosted a jousting tournament held in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada during July 13-15th. The event included open ring spearing, quintain, distance spear throwing, light and heavy armoured jousting events. AEMMA was invited to provide a demonstration at this event on the Saturday. The resulting demonstration was that of a 14th century armoured judicial duel. The combatants would fight for their honour and of course, God would side on the one that was righteous. AEMMA delivered two duels, which included the surrounding "trappings" of a medieval duel including coffins, banners, squires, herald and martials. The actual fight was entirely un-scripted nor rehersed. The duel provided the spectators a unique opportunity to witness medieval martial arts in the context of a judicial duel.
