Academy of European Medieval Martial Arts

The Academy offers a core training program that addresses two objectives: (1) to resurrect and reconstruct historical European/Western medieval martial arts; (2) to provide instruction and training in the development of personal defensive and offensive skills. For newcomers to training, we recommend you review and familiarize yourself with the training program and the equipment requirements for recruits. The equipment requirements page describes the equipment required for each level of training skill or rank.

Training at AEMMA occurs 3 times weekly, Monday and Wednesday evenings comprised of two (2) classes, the first class beginning at 6:30pm for recruit level of training, followed by the schollers and senior student's training at 8:30pm. Sundays, schollers and senior students train at 9:30am till noon, followed by recruit training from noon till 3pm.

AEMMA is comprised of dedicated individuals, whose contribution and efforts will ensure the continuing evolution and development of European medieval martial arts. For reviewing key individuals that make up AEMMA, selected biographies are available for individuals who possess the rank of "scholler" and above.

The AEMMA Training Location at Ossington & Dupont (The Toronto Salle d'Armes)

The location for training is on the 2nd floor at 927 Dupont Street, Toronto, ON Canada, SE corner at Dupont St. and Concord St. The first floor is occupied by the "Master Mechanic". The salle's entrance is to the left side of the building on Dupont (the door is clearly marked with "FACT" info.

Getting there by the TTC (refer to diagram just below):

From the west end #1:

Bloor subway eastbound to Ossington subway station and take the bus route 63 or 161 north to Dupont and Ossington.
Get off at the Dupont Street stop and walk one block west to the salle.

From the west end #2:

Bloor subway eastbound to Ossington subway and take the bus route 63 or 161 north to Dupont and Ossington.
Get off at the Dupont Street stop and walk one block west to the salle.

From the east end:

Bloor subway westbound to Ossington subway and take the bus route 63 or 161 north to Dupont and Ossington.
Get off at the Dupont Street stop and walk one block west to the salle.

From Union Station (south):

University/Spadina subway northbound to Dupont subway station.
Get off at the Dupont subway station.
Take the bus route 26 westbound from the subway station to the Ossington stop.
Get off at the Dupont Street stop and walk one block west to the salle.

From the north:

University/Spadina subway line southbound to Dupont subway station.
Get off at the Dupont subway station.
Take the bus route 26 westbound from the subway station to the Ossington stop.
Get off at the Dupont Street stop and walk one block west to the salle.

Getting there by car (refer to the diagram below):

From the Gardner Expressway, take the York exit and go north onto University Ave. to Dupont Street (15 minute drive depending upon traffic).
Turn left (west) onto Dupont Street and continue one block west of Ossington to the salle d'armes is located.
From the 401, take the Allen Expressway cutoff and go south to Eglinton (the Allen terminates at Eglinton).
Turn right onto Eglinton (west) to Oakwood and turn left (south).
South on Oakwood to Davenport Rd. and turn left (east) then right (south) onto Ossington.
Continue south to Dupont Street, and turn right. Take the first left (south) onto Concord and park.

Parking (refer to the diagram below):

Parking is available on Concord (concord is one-way south) and it is dependent upon time of the month, i.e. 15 days one side of the street, 15 days on the other side (We think it has to do with access for snow-removal equipment). Check the signs when parking.
There is metered parking on Dupont Street on the west-bound side from 6pm - 9pm.
Some parking is available on the Master Mechanic's driveway on Concord on the side of the building from 6pm onwards. It is advised that if you park there, to park against the pillar rather than the garage door. Even though Master Mechanic is closed after 6pm, tow-trucks will bring cars/accidents to the shop at all hours.

Some images of the training space at the Salle d'Armes. Top left is the building in which the salle d'armes resides. It is on the second floor. Other images depict the interior, the top right view towards the east wall and mezzanine, the bottom left view towards the west wall. Very large windows offering good natural lighting and ventilation. Men's and women's restrooms and change rooms available.
