FACT Open House

An annual event organized by FACT which includes its original partners, AEMMA, JKD and Win Chung, opened to the public, and features all of the various martial and non-martial activities which occur under the same roof. This year's event featured aerial demonstrations, including a pair by young ladiesm Holly and Tessa, who began their training only last year.
Segment Description
Shawn cutting target: Shawn Zirger, instructor for JKD is taking a cut at the rolled up tatami mats impaled on the stand. The sharp sword/blade cutting demonstration always proves to be both fun and interesting for the spectators.
Ryan cutting target: Ryan Kennedy, instructor and sifu for Win Chung is taking a cut at the rolled up tatami mats impaled on the stand. He is using a double blade combination, based on a Filipino form of fighting.
Brian cutting target: Brian McIlmoyle, principal instructor for AEMMA is taking his turn at cutting at the rolled up tatami mats impaled on the stand using a sharpened broadsword. He demonstrates the difference between a cut and a forced strike, showing a cut will cut through, but a forceable strike will only cut into the mat.
Broadsword lesson: Brian McIlmoyle, principal instructor for AEMMA explains to the audience, the principles with respect to the guards while using a broadsword and explains the commonality between the foundations of historical fencing with modern martial arts systems.
Italian rapier lesson: Beau Brock, Italian rapier instructor for AEMMA explains to the audience, the concepts of rapier fencing and demonstrates the many subtleties of this form of historical fencing.
