AEMMA Unarmoured Free Fencing Weekend

October 20 - 21, 2007

David B. Murphy, free scholar who founded AEMMA Guelph, created the idea of an unarmoured free fencing weekend, and proceeded to organize and execute this successful weekend containing numerous bouts - too many to count. This was an experiment to determine the level of interest of students of the art to get together and participate in a series of bouts and exploit the opportunity to cross swords with new combatants. At least 24 fencers were on hand, and each one had the opportunity to fight with all other fencers. The weapons included longsword, arming sword and sword & buckler.

Plans are underfoot to establish this as an annual event, with the next free fencing weekend tentatively scheduled for October 25 - 26, 2008. A similar format will be implemented with expectations that it will be another successful weekend of unarmoured fencing.

The following first group of photos are of the first day of the two day event. The day ended with cold refreshments in the armoury in the salle.
