Any practitioners in the lansing, michigan area? Been studying an doing solo work sense 02 an would like other people interested in all aspects of W,M,A,-H,E,M,A, in the area to contact me I'm looking to start a loose study group in the local area.

Wow, that video on your site is impressive. Are those actual weapons (not foam or anything)? How heavy would, say, a sword be?

I am not personally interested in fighting or participating in lessons, although I find the information on this website extremely interesting. However, my boyfriend is very interested in sword fighting, which I have learned is called spara according to this website. He has had a fascination with swords and has expressed an interest in learning how to properly fight with them. I believe he owns two dulled katana swords. I was wondering if there was a way I could enroll him in a lesson or two of spara-fighting/learner, and if it would be a good idea, as a present. The programs seem to require a lot of commitment, and I don't want to assume he will be fully committed to going to lessons. I was wondering if there are any trail-lessons available, just to test out whether he likes it or not. If there are any appropriate means of setting up a trail lesson, I would greatly appriecate to be contacted via email. Thank you. ~ Nadia

The past few days, I been studying all that you guys do. I think it brilliant and magnificent. The art of the sword and all other medieval weapons and culture, truly amazes me every time. The whole lifestyle back then was just....not sure of the word. I been looking for anything around NYC to take up some lessons...but all I found is fencing which is only a part of it ALL....Any information you guys can guve me would be appreciated.

When I first heard about AEMMA and the fact that I could have the oppertunity to learn system of med-evil combat, I totaly jumped at the chance. I have been taking the training since the summer of 08 and I love it! It can be some what frustrating . You deffinetly have to learn to crawl before you can learn to walk and I'm still crawling. At first I thought it would be all about the sword and quickly found out how much more to it than that. Foot work, body position, hand , feet, etc. And then when we were finaly handed swords ( the none sharp, pointy kind. I mean would you hand a loaded gun to a fool!) We spent a great deal of time just learning how to hold the sword, the different postions (postas, I do believe David calls them, oh ya ,by the way , you learn abit of Italian along the way).Finally we got the chance to actually swing our swords at an opponent, in a very controled and orderly fashion, and it was awsome to hear those swords clash together. It's now my second summer of learning to crawl and I've had many ups and downs. It can be somewhat frustrating, just when you think you've got something a spanner gets thrown in and you don't. But you just have to look at it as a learning experiance. And so far it is a fantastic learning experiance. How far I will go with it, I don't know. I would like to go for my scholar test next year, but I know I have a long road ahead, I just need to stay out of the ditch. So if you are thinking about checking us out... do it! You wont regret it!!

I'm impressed by your quality, linking good theoretical information for understanding (that is training also), and promoting technical seminars and coaching.
I teach in polytechnic university institution in Sport Sciences studies, and even if my base is Asian Martial Arts, my understanding of medieval western martial arts starts with the knowledge of Portuguese King Dom Duarte (1391-1438) unfinished work: "The Book of Teaching the Well Riding on Every Saddle" ("O Livro da Ensinança de Bem Cavalgar toda a Sela ") some times claimed as "Book of Riding" ("Livro do Cavalgar ") where we have a part about wrestling techniques ("luyta ") - Chapter XVI from Part 5. I live in the city where D. Duarte born at 31st October 1391 and, from here I send my best regards to all of you.

You are in Canada?!!! Shame on all the Europe, for here is the place where AEMMA must be. Some people join in teams, trying to restore a company of some medieval army. They make medieval clothes, armor, weapons, crockery,... they train to wield their weapons, to fight armored, they even restore battles and make boughurts(company VS company fight, favorite way to have fun),they spend some days of every year living in medieval way, but nobody found anything like AEMMA in Europe as far as I know.
